The reason a backflow device is installed on your property in the first place is that there is a condition that requires a backflow device. A backflow condition is stopped at the assembly which will prevent the hazard going into the water supply. Depending on the backflow assembly device installed and the possible hazardous/pollutant conditions that are present. That backflow assembly by city ordinance has to be tested to insure the backflow assembly’s internal parts are functioning according to the manufactures recommend specifications.
